Many office chairs can be adjusted in different ways to provide for comfort. An important adjustment is the height of the chair. You will not be comfortable if your feet do not touch the floor or if your knees are folded into your chin. Adjustment of modern office chairs is by means of a pneumatic cylinder that adds a bit of springiness to your chair. For a chair to be comfortable, it must also provide the right amount of back support. Back support is especially necessary for persons who use a keyboard or even a typewriter for most of the day.
Exercise Ball Seating. The basic principle behind an exercise ball chair is that it forces you to maintain good posture, therefore alleviating stress on your back, shoulder and arm muscles. Also, because you're holding proper posture and engaging your core muscles to stay erect, you actually also benefit from an all-day abdominal workout. However, sitting too long on an exercise ball can cause fatigue in your legs. And if you're a committed sloucher, you may still find ways to slouch over, therefore pulling on your lower back and causing significant muscle stress.
