The first thing that you must do is evaluate your needs. Do you simply need a desk to hold your computer, or will you need a space to layout multiple pages and other items? Look at how much office equipment you have. Do you have a computer, printer, fax, phone, photocopier, scanner and more? Or perhaps you simply have a laptop and nothing more? This will be the first major deciding factor - how much desk space do you actually need? It is also important to look at the space where you will be putting your desk. Is your office large, and able to accommodate a large desk? Or do you need to squeeze into a tiny area? It is a good idea to take measurements before you go out shopping, because this will save you a lot of time in the long run.
The height of the desk impacts the wrists, arms, neck, back, and tailbone. When a person is not sitting in the right position for extended periods of time they are putting pressure on these parts of their body. For typists, the wrists and neck are most severely impacted by improper desk height. Selecting a desk that is the right height and has the functions and features that one needs will make the workday much more comfortable. One will find that they will not suffer from the pain that was felt when they were using a table for their work area.
