It's easy for a workspace to get disorganized and messy. Part of the problem is unrealistic thinking or setting up an area that doesn't work around your needs. If you have files upon files stacked everywhere and teetering over, invest in a big metal cabinet with enough room for everything and then some.
The layout of the room is important to maintain its functionality as well as provide a peaceful area where you can focus on the tasks at hand. The problem with working from home is the vulnerability to distraction. Whether it's the sound of the garbage man, the smell of laundry that needs to be folded, or the neighbor's dog yapping through the afternoon, sometimes you'll find yourself working longer than you would on site.
