It's easy for a workspace to get disorganized and messy. Part of the problem is unrealistic thinking or setting up an area that doesn't work around your needs. If you make a lot of mistakes and end up crumpling several documents into the trashcan, invest in a big can. If you have files upon files stacked everywhere and teetering over, invest in a big metal cabinet with enough room for everything and then some.
Modern office furniture should also be sensitive to the environment - there's no point going to great lengths to create a paperless office to then deck it out with unfriendly furnishings! Look for a chair that is made from (or the majority of the chair made from) recycled materials and also chairs where parts of the chair that will wear out more quickly are easily recyclable and replaced.
