So how do you keep this from happening? Easy, whip out the vacuum about once a week and get to cleaning. By vacuuming this frequently the amount of grit that has built up should be kept to a minimal. There is even a special spray foam made especially for upholstery which can be used once a year, which is highly recommended. But be careful, as some chemicals can strip your office chair of color so make sure to do a test on a part of the chair which is not easily seen beforehand. Joy
Many office chairs can be adjusted in different ways to provide for comfort. An important adjustment is the height of the chair. You will not be comfortable if your feet do not touch the floor or if your knees are folded into your chin. Adjustment of modern office chairs is by means of a pneumatic cylinder that adds a bit of springiness to your chair. For a chair to be comfortable, it must also provide the right amount of back support. Back support is especially necessary for persons who use a keyboard or even a typewriter for most of the day.
Kneeling Stool or Chair. A kneeling chair essentially forces you into a downward kneeling position. This seating arrangement then keeps your spine erect, therefore alleviating upper back and arm strain when working at a computer. Remember though, it's important to make sure the stool is properly adjusted to fit you or it can cause uncomfortable cramping. The one drawback of kneeling stools is that they can be hard on the knees after prolonged use. Before you buy, make sure you get one that offers ample padding on the knee pad or consider purchasing a stool with a Tempurpedic knee rest.
Are your knees below your hips? When seated with your feet resting on the floor, you want to ensure your knees are below your hips. This is especially critical on heavy use chairs to ensure you maintain proper circulation below the knee. As a general rule, the angle formed by your torso and thighs should be between 90 and 105 degrees. Is the chair rounded at the front? A rounded front also helps to maintain proper circulation in your legs. How’s the back? Make sure the back rest feels comfortable. Lumbar support systems vary, so make sure the fit is good.
